Job Description:/h3:
Golden Valley Health Centers is looking for a Manager of Government Affairs. Education and experience mix must be present for eligibility of this role. Exceptional communication abilities, from written to verbal, and ability to train are a must.
Manage regular communication with CEO, Board of Directors, appointed officials, various media, staff, citizens and a variety of other customers regarding organizational information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate with CEO, Executive Team Members and Board of Directors to identify priorities and determine strategy and appropriate roles for GVHC in conducting policy, advocacy and activities.
Actively serve as an ambassador for GVHC at state legislatures and congressional offices, appropriately demonstrating the values and reputation of the organization and its brand.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials and staff, state department heads and administrative staff.
Monitor and analyze all relevant pieces of legislation and provide or facilitate oral and written testimony in accordance with Board Direction, policy and needs of GVHC.
In close collaboration with NACHA and national colleagues, lead planning and implementation of comprehensive and strategic issue campaigns to achieve progress towards legislative and appropriations successes at the state/local level.
Actively serve as GVHCs representative on coalitions aimed at advancing public policy priorities.
Closely collaborate with relevant local, state and national agency personnel.
Work in collaboration with local, state and national partners and associates to promote all legislation and grassroots efforts needed to support the mission and priorities of GVHC.
Conduct training for board members, staff and volunteers as needed to help prepare for meetings, testimony, etc.
Create, implement and maintain an advocacy network and staff committee.
Lead annual National Health Centers Week, incorporating advocacy efforts in each event.
Closely work with marketing department on external and internal communication, speaking points, newsletter articles and other vehicles to communicate.
Work to gather pertinent and timely patient stories to share with elected officials demonstrating the mission, need, successes of GVHC.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Min. Qualifications
Bachelors degree in political science or related field, and a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, or appropriate mixture of education and work.* Detailed knowledge of the legislative process and political landscape.* Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and computer skills required, including Microsoft Office.* Ability to work independently with minimum direction as well as work as a member or leader of a team.* Demonstrated ability to work on fast:paced, time:sensitive matters with internal and external constituents.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities.* Ability to complete work in a timely and efficient manner and ensure work is accurate.* Ability to utilize available technology to perform position responsibilities. Some travel required.
Physical Demands
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelors degree required in business, marketing, political science or related field; graduate degree preferred. Two years experience in local, state, and/or federal advocacy work or combination. Must have Valid CA drivers license, acceptable driving history and liability insurance.
